She had to meet him when she first laid eyes on him Her body trembling and her mind all a-buzz She liked the way he walked the earth as a sensitive one Never assuming that he’ll do what he does Her timing couldn’t have been any better or worse He took the looks and interests just as they come He told her positives and negatives and charming reports And they ended up making love The spring had found its’ way into summer She’s on the road and in the clouds above She returned to open arms in the doorway They stood there frozen in a never-ending hug S0 Halloween came and their feelings were masked and robed All saints day found them bothered and bugged They decided on a break but realized their mistake And they ended up making love Now for all the time and money spent, the tears shed, the makeups and the chases Now for all the lonely nights, the public fights with sad, concerned familiar faces Please not here!!! He said I need you to honor all my secrets And that he didn’t want to plan for Christmas She told him that I love you but you’ll have to learn to change And he said, “I don’t play that game” So they commenced their normal, processed resolutions And found that happiness the only solution And they ended up a-sleeping on the mattress on her floor And they ended up making love Promise it’s not a contest Who is gonna suffer the least between us

Big Heart 03:49
I salute you DOUBLE PEACE These two fingers just ain’t cuttin’ it It’s still brutal for the lower class People standing ‘round indifferent Absolutely DOUBLE PEACE We surrender ‘neath the sheets A peace for you, a piece for me Something’s missing – you could dodge the truth How can we kill science? How can we kill King? Tell me what the hell am I reading about Or looking at on a TV screen Now it’s 9 o’clock in the morning And half the world’s asleep But some are sleeping on feather beds While the outcasts sleep in the streets I’ve got a news suggestion We could double the weatherman’s pay In addition to his forcast, what’s his look on peace today? Yea I could spare some change man But I don’t know if change gon’ come Tell me how the hell did big heart get his hands on a loaded gun Big Heart never let a dream die Big Heart never let your guard down I missed you at the rally, but I see you on the net If some of this should happen to you there’d be hell to pay, I’d bet SO carry on in your progress, and go call your one black friend I’ll be marching towards the best for us and I’ll meet you at the end

Her running slowed to a walk then a crawl and now she’s gone from my mind You friends will have your front and your back no matter what is going on So why not sweep these eggshells off the floor We’re here right now and there is nothing more He’s a cross between a Hurricane and a hyper active boy Any further explanation will drown out his Pink noise The river’s run on for centuries or more and now it’s dry as a bone The water nourished the trees on the bank that housed the birds and their songs So why not find another spot to fish Or close our eyes and introduce our lips She’s a cross between a Lion Queen and the captain of a cheering team Any further speculation might wake her from her white noise dream I swear the last thing I put in my cup was water, babe In case I woke up thirsty in the night I held my pillow tight, a passing thought of you I hoped the last mosquito wouldn’t bite before the frost There’s metal still on the fields from the battles let it lay where it lay The Giant Sleeping so sweetly, so peacefully on his side like a baby The sound of domestic violence is quieted with a look of defeat The window seemed to be crying no lying he looked humbled on these streets I think I’ve seen all that I need to see Take out your old dull scissors cut me free He’s a cross between a Hurricane and a hyper active boy Any further explanation will drown out his Pink noise She’s a cross between a Lion Queen and the captain of a cheerlead team Any further speculation might wake her from her white noise dream I swear the last thing I put in my cup was water, babe In case I woke up thirsty in the night I held my pillow tight, a passing thought of you I hoped the last mosquito didn’t bite before the frost

Cold Moon 04:22
I laid awake last night in a bed we never shared Felt like something was missing that was never really there What is it about that feeling? Oh when you hold me And you’re near The real home of the brave The actual land of the free Cold moon’s a-coming And who’ll keep you warm I’ve got extra blankets And here comes the storm She calls him on the telephone and he recalls her beauty But, like a Blue Jay, doesn’t sing the prettiest song What is it about that feeling?

Raincheck 03:32
Come on Come on old buddy Long time no see There’s a great old film that’s playing at the theater on Houston St It always feels like yesterday, but maybe we’ve grown to far apart Ellinore’s been gone teaching English in Vietnam She came home for a funeral and didn’t make any other plans When we all called to bring out we didn’t get one response in return I don’t wanna write a raincheck that you’re never gonna cash But if I did I’d put an expiration on the back I’ll think about it for a couple days and get back to you I guess we’re guilty of the same thing But I’m always sympathetic of your wishes and dreams They passed through Charlotte a White Van chewin’ road on tour Sent a word to Nathan and he promised ‘em a bottle of Dewar’s But Raleigh’s just a few more hours and maybe he’ll make the drive this time I don’t wanna write a raincheck that you’re never gonna cash If I did I’d put an expiration on the back I’ll think about it for a couple days and get back to you I guess we’re guilty of the same thing But I’m always sympathetic of your wishes and dreams We all lose touch sometimes but, don’t ya lose that sense completely Forget to call on Christmas, you’re forgiven We can wait for the new year when things settle down I know the absence isn’t deliberate these paths are crazy ain’t they Jack joined the Army as soon as we finished school There’s a few young men left to pull from a shrinking pool And we all held our breath for years, wrote him off like a lost cause We thought We didn’t wanna write a rain check that he’s never gonna cash We hoped they didn’t put an expiration on his back I thought about him every couple days we were young and green I know he’s guilty of the same thing And I only call him crazy cause I know what it means

I Yield 03:06
I Yield I Yield I Yield He’d been long gone by the time I was six I’ve done the simple math and it all makes sense I Yield After teenage dreams turned to salty memories In favor of the harshness of adult realities I Yield Though history tried calling you superior race I step aside on our sidewalk with a smile on my face I yield Niggas this and niggas that does damage to my ears I throw out pounds and slide my skin, resign for my peers I yield Callin’ on you now, take the torch and pass it round Callin’ off the dogs, call it off before that stubborn driver Crashes into us Matrimony hides her face while tickling my feet Passing countless suitors as I make my two ends meet I yield One thousand voices in my head and strongly they opine I put 3 eggs in one basket with the hope that I’ll be fine Go Heal When life hands you that lemon put the juice to good use Soak your feet in Epsom salts and spit polish your boots Go heal I Yield

All I Got 04:33
I may be poor but at least my house is clean It’s due for inspection, the stones locked up unseen Not brick and mortar, nor woodstacks piled high Hay was an option but that chance has passed me by To live like an outlaw with some songs and a tank of gas A guitar on my shoulder But this music’s all I got To my family forget me not You can use me when I’m hot When I cold I’ll kneel down and beg for more IRS, old Willie Never gonna get me down The path is darkened by a torch that’s fueled by doubt We head towards the star in the distance Our hands and hearts reached out I let her walk for reasons still unknown Don’t curse at statues don’t scream at a mind that’s blow We live for the wonder with a tempted mind to bail The current is steady, unstable Cuz this music’s all I got To my family forget me not You can use me when I’m hot When I cold I’ll kneel down and beg for more One Percent, Uncle Samuel never gonna tax my soul! Ranks wane in number with each battle casualties We hold our position knowing backup’s on the way With captains orders “Keep Going. Just Keep Going” Go walk with purpose draw strength from those before Who drove a taxi, who among us has swept floors? Don’t live for another’s persuasion to be safe Just dream and speak with angels Cuz this music’s all we got To our family’s forget us not You can use us when we’re hot When we’re cold we’ll kneel down and beg for more Times are tough like always but who would ever lead the strike?

Holiday 03:36
He took a shot before He got on the subway His oldest mate was celebrating his birthday He’d been awkward recluse for 37 days to date He cut out hanging with those suckers on purpose They thought he was being scared and nervous But his skin’s so thick that a Cutco knife would be dulled Called into question his participation Thought he’d deflate the joyous celebration But he’d heed his mother’s words and he’d don that Claire Huxtable smile He stuck around until they cut through the ice cream cake Made up a tale, he had to run or he’d be late To some made up gig on the west side or was it uptown? Forget it, then Timmy said, You don’t have to be the person you think I think you are For your voice is like a holiday Sat on a bus and rubbed her hands with lotion She’s going backwards despite forward motion To a boneyard, a memory, a boarded up seafront home She packed a bag with only her necessities Gave up her cosmetics and cut-off jeans Cuz there’s work there where she’s heading and a thrift store to purchase more She sent a message with a trusted messenger Put on an air of love and clothed her anger She would be the better person and make off with only dust in her wake Her grandma told she could hold down a straight job Put down the paint brush and quit being an art snob That she was shooting in the dark with no bullets and no target Then Jenny said You don’t have to be the person you think I think you are For your voice is like a holiday

Migrate 03:58
There's a pretty young lady sitting next to me She shoots me a smile but I don't say a thing Cuz I'm writing some things down that I can't stand to see Like the poor man sitting round beggin' for change It's a numbers game it's a fast food chain And no one knows where he goes when it starts to rain Women and minorities scared to death Making lesser wages getting choked for breath There's a protest up in Harlem but I didn't show Policeman searching my duffle bag As I stand aside calmly smoking a fag Cuz all he'll find is gym socks rubbers and orange peels Oh Darling, Darling the postcard read The mood here's soured and it's gone to my head Why don't we follow all those birds heading South It may be better there, but I still have my doubts The moustache kids thinking they're all slick Cuz they style themselves like our father's did And nothing can keep the band from calling it quits I heard a haggler fighting over 69 cents I'm like goddamn lady you could pay my rent Those rims were shining bright on her brand new Benz Accent women pushing round other people's kids No money left in this record biz They all scream out loud IT IS WHAT IT IS WHAT IT IS Locals and the transplants cursing in vain Cuz the neighborhood's changed it don't look the same But we can all get behind the new Ball team The Donkeys and the Elephants duking it out Pissing all of us off in their heavyweight bout And the 24 hour news ain't worthy a damn Oh Darling Darling… Teachers here teaching your trouble making kids Getting pensions cut cuz the union quit Colleges making 'em pay but there ain't no work Look over there it's a condo rising Kicking old tenants out and it ain't surprising The TF Gentry laughing all the way to the bank We got grown dudes tapping on video games I met 'em all once but can't remember their names Someone give me good news before I go insane The hardhat boys got a new task at hand Turning history's hood into Disneyland But Minnie's got 4 young kids and Mickey's Upstate Jesus on his way back stops to look At the beautiful stars before the whole earth shook And snipers shooting down wolves from their copter seats OH HELLLLLL NAW Oh Darling Darling…

Buffalo Folk 03:56
I saw my father skip back to his younger days An old friend waved goodbye before they part their ways I heard my father’s chuckle and it filled my heart with hope I guess this is what we’re made of Buffalo Folk Buffalo Folk I feel your pain The north wind brings us winter chill and the west wind brings us rain Buffalo Folk standing strong This too shall pass before long There stands an old brick schoolhouse down the narrow sweethome road Where the days have gone no one seems to know I felt my brother’s heart drop as the news to him was broke I guess this is what we’re made of Buffalo Folk Buffalo Folk I feel your pain The north wind brings us winter chill and the west wind brings us rain Buffalo Folk standing strong This too shall pass before long Poor Charlie he was my brother’s best friend A man and wife divorce and leave their children to defend But who would have it any other way May our children all be born the month of may Buffalo Folk I feel your pain The north wind brings us winter chill and the west wind brings us rain Buffalo Folk standing strong This too shall pass before long I crept in through the back door as the birds began to sing Tried not to wake my mama but she hears everything She asked me how the job went as she lit a waking smoke I said the job was good the band played on I made a buck and I’m slightly buzzed And this is what I’m made of I’m a Buffalo Folk

Vines 04:03
Can’t Say I Love You: I don’t mean it the same But I wrote this letter and the words rearranged themselves Without my help Oh the bold bold move of those words And I said it anyway You’re gonna lose me, or maybe I’ll lose you And it might sound morbid, but we won’t have to choose the time When we die Oh the cold, hard press of time And I’ll say it anyway These walls can break down one brick at a time But it took so long to build I’ve grown to enjoy the vines Over time – Look at these vines! Take your time Oh the bold, hard work of your hands You just keep chipping away
